Vision
By Morgan Kauffman
It was night, not a star was shining in the cloudless sky. The moon was all there was shining in the sky, and it’s light was dimming. A tall, slender girl; Victoria did not notice this. She stood there with her dark, long silk - like hair tied up in dark, grey ribbon. Her glasses lay on her nose just enough to the edge that you could see the glint in her eyes as she caught a glimpse of something moving in the distance. She was holding a large leather book that she had been studying, when she noticed a figure jumping from bush to bush in the distance. It began inching it’s way closer and closer to Victoria as she began to realize it was getting too close for comfort.
Victoria was a clever child, but ever since the age of three, she had been able to see things that made her feel quite... uncomfortable, really. Her parents had no idea what was wrong with her, other than that she would constantly be petrified to fall asleep in her own bed alone or be left alone at all for that matter. She would go on and on about monsters and demons, but there were her good days where she was pleasantly surprised and then speak of angels and kind spirits or souls. Eventually, it became such an issue that her parents began to try everything they could to “cure” her of her visions. They tried speaking to several different doctors, psychiatrists, even hypnotism and priests. Eventually, they came to a mysterious man who called himself a “Hunter”. He claimed to specialize in searching out demonic beings and monsters and had many trinkets in his shabby shed. He tried out spells, certain incantations from other sources, voodoo, ancient relics were even brought out to no avail to what she was able to see, until, as a way to pacify her parents, he handed her a simple pair of wooden framed glasses. There was nothing special about them, the lenses were not even prescription strength. But, she put them on, and she could; for some reason, no longer see or hear these other beings. From then on, she continued to wear these glasses and no longer complained of seeing them again.
